its the last day of september
its the last day of september
and the leaves are just now turning
the cold stiff winds from farther north
are barely even churning
sweet september somehow slipped by
in these halls of learning
stress and fear delight the bells
with each fair mind much yearning
for cooler air, calmer storms
and a softer sense of lurking
menace to shadow the apparent
summer itself much overextending
and swallows the remnants of autum
September is only such in naming
and the leaves are just now turning
